Central Manor Campmeeting - History
Shortly before the beginning of the 20th century, in an era when campmeetings were springing up in many places, our founder, Dr. I. A. MacDannald got the vision to start a campmeeting in the beautiful wooded area which we now occupy.
The Council of the Church of God at Washington Boro, of which Dr. MacDannald was pastor, agreed to cooperate if he could secure twenty tents and rent the ground. The first camp opened with nineteen tents on Thursday evening September 7,1892.
In 1905 the Central Manor Campmeeting Association was formed. In the same year the first tabernacle-twenty feet by fifty feet was built and action was taken to build a dining hall.
Tents were used exclusively until 1926 when three cabins were built. There are now about 160 cabins.
Our present auditiorium accommodates approximately 1,000 people. The dining hall is able to seat 350 people at one meal.
The camp is incorporated and functions as a non-denominational campmeeting and Bible Conference facility, where the fundamental truths of the Word of God are faithfully proclaimed.
